The Socialist International is the worldwide organisation of social democratic, socialist and labour parties. It currently has 161 member parties.
The Congress meets every three years and the Council meets twice a year. Labour Party Leader and Prime Minister Tony Blair is a Vice President and a member of the Presidium.
Lord Foulkes (George) of Cumnock represents the Labour Party on the Executive Committee. Socialist International Women is the International organisation of the women’s organisations of the Socialists, Social democrat and Labour parties affiliated to the Socialist International.
The Socialist International Council met in Santiago, Chile 6-7 November 2006. The title of the Council was "From National to Global Governance: Priorities for a Sustainable Future". Two main themes were discussed: Energy and Climate Change and New Horizons for Peace. The Labour Party was represented by Rt. Hon. Bruce George MP and Rachel Cowburn (Labour Party International Manager).
