Carbon off-setting

Climate CareThe Labour Government has shown consistent leadership in the field of climate change, at home and abroad, by setting bold targets and pursuing ambitious policies, and working to secure long-term international agreement on reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

And the Labour Party is also doing its bit for the environment. Participants at our Spring and Annual Conferences will now pay a small fee towards offsetting the carbon emissions from those conferences with Climate Care.

Labour recognises that tackling the threat of climate change is one of the greatest challenges facing the world today. While Labour in Government works to move Britain towards a low-carbon economy, and with the international community to reduce global emissions, we believe it is important that we demonstrate our commitment to tackling climate change by ensuring that the carbon emissions produced by our conferences are offset.

Climate Care offsets CO2 emissions on behalf of organisations and individuals. The payments we make to Climate Care will help to fund projects in green energy, energy efficiency and forest restoration around the world to reduce emissions. These projects not only result in real reductions in carbon emissions, but also make a difference to people’s lives.

Working with Climate Care, we have estimated the carbon footprint of our conferences. A charge to help cover the costs of participant's emissions – such as travel, accommodation and stay at conference – will be added to the cost of their application. This will be at a rate of £2.50 per attendee at Spring Conference and £4 per attendee at Annual Conference.

To find out more about Climate Care and its projects, see www.climatecare.org
